1.) To drive a hipot test on a photovoltaic module successfully, you will need to plan the technical recipe:

  • Ramp Time [s]
  • Test Voltage [V]
  • Hold Time [s]
  • Pass / Fail Limit [μA]

How to dimension these recipe values:

  • Certification and Testing Standard (UL or IEC)?
  • Dimensions of the photovoltaic module being tested hipot?
  • Do you want to only carry out a high voltage withstanding test, or also a insulation resistance test?
  • Test conducted inline or for lab sampling?
  •  Test method being applied (wet, moist, dry)?

2.) Examples of recommended recipes for different types of module:

  • AMAT TYPE (coming soon)
  • OERLIKON TYPE (coming soon)
  • First Solar TYPE (coming soon)
  • Avancis TYPE (coming soon)
  • CSG Solar TYPE (coming soon)
  • Würth TYPE (coming soon)
  • Q-Cells TYPE (coming soon)
  • Schott TYPE (coming soon)

4.) World record in Hipot Testing of a PV module:

The highest known value of 30KV tested on a photovoltaic module was reached during tests in April 2008 at the HARREXCO Technology Center in Langenzenn / Germany. The result will be demonstrated by video on this page  soon…
